Windows Vista introduced some new very nice fonts such as Candara, Consolas, Calibri (default Vista font), Cambria, Constantia and Corbel. Here’s an easy tip that will allow you to install those fonts for free in your Windows XP or even Windows 2000 system:
- Navigate to the download page of the Microsoft Compatibility Pack (MCP). The MCP is a free utility that allows you open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.
- Click the Download button and download the MCP (file name is FileFormatConverter.exe)
Install the MCP
- You’ll now will have the Vista fonts added to the other installed fonts in all Office applications
Vista uses Calibri 10pt by default. You can change the font that Windows is using in the Appearance tab of the Display Properties. Just click on the Advanced button in that menu and select the element that you want to change the font for. You should see an immediate difference if you select one of the new fonts and have cleartype enabled.
