Virtualbox: configure Fedora 14

This post shows how to configure Fedora 14 Laughlin on Virtualbox.

VirtualBox guest additions provide features such as mouse integration. The following steps will guide you trough the process of installing these guest additions:

  • Make sure virtual machine is having direct internet connection (without proxy) with download option
  • Open terminal, log in as root and run the following command:
yum -y update kernel

After successfully downloaded and installed, run:

yum -y install kernel-devel kernel-headers dkms gcc gcc-c++
  • Restart the virtual machine after the updates
  • Now, go to Devices and select Install Guest Additions from menu
  • Mount VirtualBox Guest Additions device:
mkdir /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions
mount -r /dev/cdrom /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions
  • Then you can execute the installation using command (as root)
/VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
  • Reboot
